High potential and gifted education

Some students learn faster and more easily than others. These students may shine in creativity, thinking, leadership or sport.

At our school, we recognise and nurture these strengths early. We support advanced learners with great lessons and activities to help them grow and thrive.

Why choose us for your high potential or gifted child?

Recognising potential and developing talent

Our teachers find potential and nurture our students to be the best they can be.

Tailored lessons

Each student has different abilities. Teachers respond to each student’s ability by providing extra challenges and extension activities to keep learning exciting and engaging.

Rich opportunities and activities

Students can take part in opportunities to develop their talent in the arts, sport, leadership and more.

Opening doors to wider experiences

Our students can participate in a wide range of state-wide opportunities that aim to extend and enrich student potential.

What is high potential and gifted education?

High potential and gifted education (HPGE) is how our school supports students with advanced learning needs.

We do this through:

Our high potential and gifted education opportunities

Our students engage with HPGE education in the classroom, in our school, and across NSW.

In our classroom

In the classroom, Riverstone Public School provides the following HPGE offerings:

- At our school, we are proud to offer students the unique opportunity to learn Dharug as a second language. This program celebrates the rich cultural heritage of the Dharug people, the traditional custodians of the land on which we learn. Through engaging lessons, students explore the Dharug language, history, and stories, fostering respect and connection to the local Aboriginal community. Research shows that multilingual learners develop more efficient and interconnected neural networks for language processing, executive control, and memory.

- To ensure every student thrives, we provide individual learning tasks tailored to each student’s ability and learning style. This personalised approach enables students to progress at their own pace, building confidence and achieving their full potential in language acquisition.

Across our school

Across Riverstone Public School, we provide the following HPGE offerings:

- We offer a dynamic STEAM program through High Potential and Gifted Education (HPGE). This program encourages creativity, critical thinking, and innovation by integrating Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Through hands-on projects and collaborative learning, students develop problem-solving skills and a passion for discovery, preparing them for future academic and career opportunities in a rapidly evolving world. Riverstone Public School has a preschool on site, of which the STEAM program commences from preschool.

- Our Creative Arts HPGE programs continue to shine through outstanding student talent and dedication. This year, our choir and dance groups proudly represented our school at the prestigious Blacktown Festival. Showcasing their creativity, skill, and passion, our students delivered captivating performances that celebrated both artistic expression and community spirit. Their participation in this vibrant cultural event highlights the strength of our Creative Arts HPGE, fostering confidence and excellence in our young performers. We are incredibly proud of their achievements and look forward to supporting their ongoing artistic journey.

- At our school, we are proud to participate in the Primary Schools Sports Association (PSSA), offering students a wonderful opportunity to develop their teamwork, sportsmanship, and physical skills through a wide range of competitive sports. PSSA provides students from Years 3 to 6 with the chance to represent our school in inter-school competitions, fostering a strong sense of community, healthy competition, and personal growth. Our dedicated coaches and enthusiastic players work together to promote a positive sporting culture where every student is encouraged to strive for their best while enjoying the fun and camaraderie of team sports.

Across NSW

Students at Riverstone Public School has been successfully represented across NSW:

- Our Year 6 student, Hajar represented NSW in the Ridges Girls Soccer Team. Her team placed first at the Sydney West Girls Soccer Championships in 2025 and continues to showcase her sporting abilities on the field.

- In 2024, one of our Year 6 students, Gayathri, also represented NSW State Cricket Team. She was among the state's top primary school stars!

We are incredibly proud to have students at our school who have excelled in their sporting pursuits and represented New South Wales in various state-level competitions. Their commitment, skill, and determination have not only brought recognition to themselves but also to our school community.
