NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.
On enrolment parents and carers will be given the Special Religious Education and Special Education in Ethics participation letter to complete and return. After the initial enrolment, any changes should be given to the office in writing.
At Riverstone Public School, Special Religious Education (SRE) classes are delivered on Tuesdays;
• Kindergarten to Year 2 from 2:00pm - 2:25pm
• Year 3 to Year 6 from 2:25pm - 2:55pm
The following SRE classes are offered at Riverstone Public School:
• Catholic
• Protestant
Alternatively, students can participate in Special Education in Ethics. These classes focus on values to support children to develop a life-long capacity for making well-reasoned decisions.
Some explicit values taught include;
• Care and compassion
• Fairness
• Thoughtfulness
• Respect and responsibility
During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.
You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
Visit the department’s website for more information about religion and ethics.
